Hello there! I'm Eric.
Feb 15th, 2019 at 6:48pm

Hello everybody! As the title says my name is Eric and I'm 26. So I got into slinging a year or so ago after the video game enter the gungeon in which there's a sling as a weapon. Curiosity got the better of me and so I ended up buying a sling off amazon(I believe it's the user here davidtheshepherd). I ended up making my first king tut sling earlier today(the process took 12 or so hours with learning bumps) and at some point with my past textile and tailoring skills I'd like to streamline the process and be able to provide cheap king tut style slings to all of you guys. One last bit of something to know about me is that I'm from New Jersey which is a very odd state to sling in due to slingshots being illegal(because of a typo of the word slungshot, a weapon that is similar to a blackjack).

Welcome from Finland! I've attempted weaving an Egyptian sling a few times and been... less than successful. It's one of the few types of sling at this point don't have an example of.

Welcome from northern maine, I grew up in Nj, southJersey. But lived all over the state. We have another member from nj here as well. My advice.  GET OUT OF NJ WHILE YOU STILL CAN. back on topic, I never had an issue slinging in a few parks there, I had more spectators, when i was out in public doing it.  I own a small etsy shop where i sell my slings, i would use the mobile game " pokemon go"  to help with marketing at a local park.

In regards to slingshots, last I heard. They have a few small clubs in the state that are lobbying to get that law overturned.

kick - I'm actually an inventor of sorts and again I'm working on ways to basically make the pouch just using an automated process utilizing some sort of loom but hooked up to an arduino and other machine parts. From what I can tell, to get a high grade(I'm real perfectionist when it comes to textile projects) tut style sling it can run upwards of 150-200$. I want to be able to streamline the process to the point I can charge maybe like 50$ per sling. Plus it would help speed up the time it would take to stock up an online store.

vetryan15 - Oh believe me when I wouldn't want anything more than to leave NJ(it's just a matter of saving and time and then I'm probably gonna move to Louisiana due to friends being down there). In regards to the legality I did get the okay to sling for sport provided I'm not hunting with it or doing anything vandalizing. There's nothing in NJ legislature regarding slings, only slingshots.

Curious Aardvark - While that would be awesome I'm unfortunately extremely allergic to dogs :/

I'll post pics to my most recent sling once I'm not deliriously tired from braiding almost 15 x 2 feet of cord.

Welcome Eric!  The very idea that you need permission from the state of NJ to use a primitive weapon is unamerican. Get out of Jersey and come to Texas!  Louisiana isn’t bad either Smiley

If you want to mass produce slings automatically, you can buy a leather punch for under $150. Use a boat sling pattern or something similar from this site. Connect that arduino to a hydraulic press, and punch one out every time you get an order on Etsy or EBay.  Stick the pouch and loose string in a ziplock bag with some printed instructions for assembly, and sell it as a kit (let the buyer choose the preferred cord length and do the labor intensive part of assembly) for around $10 with about a 100% profit margin (depends on the price of the pouch material). The hard part is finding enough demand for slings to keep the presses running.
