Virtual International "Balearic" Slinging Competition

As the actual international slinging competition nears, I realize that many like myself are unable to attend for one reason or another. Personally, I am 5,500 miles away and unable to take any sort of leave until May.

Regardless, I think the competition rules are fairly clear from what I understand and it provides a good opportunity to compare scores and see where one stands.

I propose using the exact same rules, only adding that with those that want to compete online, you must have a tape measure validating your distance to the target and target size. Also, each round must be filmed unbroken to prevent a "hit reel" of only bulls-eyes.

Also, all submissions must be posted by March 14th.

I'll make some sort of certificate for the award that you can put up on your fridge.

I will need some help with the rules but here goes:

Distance: 20m
Target dimensions - Outer:   Center:
Points - Outer:   Center:
Slinging Style: 2 rotations but not held strictly
Ammo: Any - preferably rocks or something easy to see the impact on video
Number of rounds:
Shots per round:

Video Requirements

Video should document measured target and distance to target and be positioned behind the slinger and to their slinging side (right for right handed slingers). The camera should be able to visualize both the slinger and the target impact in the frame.

Let me know what you think!

As always I love a challenge , but I'm not sure that I can film such long videos and post them, I have some weird issue with my YouTube accounts and can't seem to upload anything anymore , also in not a fan of the "must do" rotations before the throw and also don't actually think they play much a role in short distance target slinging, I almost always throw Byzantine (1 rotation )

Given I can throw Byzantine and I can find some way to share the video I would be interested.

I would love to if I could find a place to throw 20m. The most I can get in my yard is 15

4 rounds
5 shots per round Smiley

Great idea !
Stones or clay.
uwe and christian have used clay for the last few years.

diana is a 50cm disc - worth 2 points.
the 'quadro' is 120cm square and worth 1 point.
The centre of the diana is approx 160cm off the ground, the top of the quadro is 220cm.

dropping the idea here.
you could use the method I use for evaluation of a slinger.

Pros:
independent of distance, independent of target size or shape , absolute results independent of luck.

Cons:
Needs a big backstop , the video needs a little more processing.

think you're missing the point Smiley

The idea is for a COMPETITION using rules and target that the balearic isles have been using for centuries - not a 'how do you sling' analysis.  Smiley

The target can be as simple as achalk outlines on  a wall. Blanket or carpet hung between 2 trees with hole cut out for diana, of plywood disc, cardboard disc etc.

Exactly what CA said! I personally will be doing the chalk outline method on an old concrete bridge support.

This will sure be interesting, actually. Technology finally come to the rescue for a truly international event.

Drop your scores and data into the "Here Be Maths" Google Form once you have the data, please! It will help a great deal in our collection efforts and eventual information on Average Slinger Accuracy and other academic information for the long-neglected study of the sling.

If someone would be willing to get the score cards for the International Competition too, that would be greatly appreciated. I'll do the data entry, if needed.

I'm going to see what I can do to participate as well. Been a while since I broke out a target.

Thanks!
