Very tip-weight sling projectiles
Nov 23rd, 2018 at 1:02pm

I have this kind of souvenir from British holiday. It's a pen that always stands upright.
I wonder if that would be a good sling projectile? The test result is displayed in the video:

How about a streamer or tail, like on a kite, to make them fly straight?

the shape and mass placement of the pen is optimal for subsonic speeds. now how to put it in a pouch and sling it with a good spiral is another story...

An interesting concept. Another thing that would be interesting to see would be if one could apply the magnus effect to slinging. Thought I have a vague memory of you doing that before, but I have a terrible memory.

For pirouette style, the Magnus effect is clearly visible. The stone is dive fast or glide too far. But I have never made a video.

I didn’t know that, that’s interesting. But I was thinking it would be interesting to make some sort of ammo to use the effect to its fullest and see if it is benifical for slinging at all. Or if it’s just fun to do.

watch from 5:30
the problem is that he uses tennis balls
he achieved 86m w/ backspin .
if i remember correct i can throw a tennis ball 50m by hand, 70m with sling, spiral and backspin dont differ too much.
tennis balls aren't a good way to get results with backspin . probably the surface material is the problem not the density.
