Hello from Pennsylvania, USA

Hi everyone.  I'm joining you from western Pennsylvania.

I made my first sling a little over 10 years ago.  I got interested after reading The Clan of the Cave Bear, and decided I was going to make some slings and become a marksman.  The first part of that went okay, and I braided a few slings.  But I was downright terrible when it came to using them.

I was bad enough that I completely lost interest for a long while.  I started getting back into slinging a few years ago.  I bought a house with several apple trees on the property.  The apples don't really grow big enough to eat.  But they make great ammunition.  So once Fall hits I get a lot of practice slinging apples out in to the brush around my house.

My photography skills aren't great, but I took a couple pictures of slings I have.  I will post them shortly.  Glad to be here.

This one is pretty much my go to sling.  It's from back when I originally started making slings.  I actually don't recall which sling I made first, but this would have been one of them.

It's an 8 strand braid made from hemp.  The pouch is linen.

...

And this sling is one I finished just last night.  A leather pouch with paracord lines.  The pouch was made following a pattern found on this site.  I got in a few throws this morning before leaving for work and so far so good.

Hello, Thanks for sharing sling pics. I like simple effective setups and want to try cupped pouches too. I have been thinking of an oilcloth canvas/leather combo and seeing your linen pouch got me thinking more on it. Apples are great ammo too Grin

Thanks all for the welcome!

I tried using linen for a pouch because I wanted something that would be easier to stitch than leather (although I've done quite a few of those).  I actually didn't expect it to hold up like it has, but it's worked real well.

Thanks!  Yes, I do make mead.  Just at home, not professionally.  I recently bottled part of a barrel-aged batched.

Thank you!  I'm currently working on another braided hemp sling.  It's almost halfway there so still a bit to go.

That's awesome.  I plan on starting next year. I just moved and am starting my own homestead
