It definitely looks like a sling to our eyes but then it has a weird pouch if it is a sling, doesn't have a rention loop and really short. Honestly, I don't really get it. Kids costumes aren't exactly known for their historical accuracy but where has this idea come from?

We just tuck the 'hawk through our sash when we reenact. It's historically correct and it works nicely. Never thought about using a sling. And I did have to use one for a belt once.
