Pirouette/ 360 spin style

Here is a style that is undoubtedly powerful when used with a long sling.

Anyone similar with it?

What do you think are the pros and cons?

I am thinking of practicing with the style. I have done videos slinging with a pirouette before but I swirl the sling an extra round over my head which I think actually loses power. May be I'll post a new video soon.

This is one of my oldest videos. Please excuse the music...It wasn't my choice. At the time making video wasn't so simple. (It was when Mark Walhberg was still call Marky Mark!) The person filming me was testing her digital camera and she insisted on testing her editing software with this clip by adding music Embarrassed

I wasn't throwing very far. The goal was to catch the splash in the water. I was throwing rocks half the size of bricks.

This is one style I rarely try , mainly because I suck at aiming with it , and my sling is short(27inch) so I don't gain much from this style.
People such as timpa have this style down.

I always loved that video Tint. You make it look so fluid.

Thanks for posting.  You are strong and fluid.  I agree that the extra spin before the release is not necessary

My current favorite style, although I seem to throw better with helicopter style.

Timpa's video tutorial helped me get started:

I obviously need a lot more practice.

My 6 year old godson - featured in a previous post, demonstrates that pirouette is a natural way to sling:

More with the extra loop here. You might be right about it stealing power Tint.

Thanks for the links and encouragement, guys!
I have been watching discus throwers on YouTube the last few days and tried copying their technique. Not easy to do it well to say the least! I got to a point where I can throw a tennis ball by hand almost as hard as my normal throw. But to use that energy in slinging is going to take a lot more work. I see the potential though.
I also have been looking at hammer throwers. Their apparatus seems closest to slinging but their technique is too complex to have a go at on my own. May be someday I'll seek advice from a track and field throwing coach.

One problem I can see with a hammer throw technique is that you won't have enough weight at the end of the sling unless you are using huge stones. It's because of the heavy weight they can spin and build up so much momentum.

I have been having some fun after work:

https://youtu.be/CE0pMhcVsDQ

I thought I was doing it differently. It was only after watching this video that I realized I kept the same extra rotation over my head. I was only focusing on the spin and footwork, the extra swing happened just naturally. I am happy with the power though.

The sling I was using was 5 and a half feet long made with 1mm nylon cord.

The main rule is that:

- an extra round before the pirouette increases the speed.

- An extra round after the pirouette will reduce the speed.

But your throat looked good!

Thanks, timpa!

I learned from watching you!

Will keep working on the technique.

Timpa -

In the lower right hand corner of the Youtube video screen, click the settings button (it looks like a small gear) you should see 3 options, click the middle one for speed and then select 0.5 or 0.25.

Let me know if this does not work.

I'll need to borrow a proper camera. Give me some time, I'll make a slow motion video just for you!

You may analyze publicly if you wish. Sharing opinions is how we get better!

Not  a fan.

At the end of the day you can't spin your body as fast as you can spin a sling by hand. So unless you are using very long slings with heavy missiles. It's just counter productive.

Plus nearly impossible to be accurate with.
