You can get carbon fiber string. Its only stiff when its impregnated with resin. You should try that or kevlar with a cap Paul pouch. Could last for many years of slinging.

Carbon fiber splinters are awful! Fraying carbon cords that embed microscopic hairs under the skin? No thanks.
