Alternative uses for slings
Aug 1st, 2018 at 10:37pm

Hi I was looking through the book “Slining for sport and survival” by Cliff Savage and he was talking about what you can use slings for...

Last week my wife asked (knowingly) if I had a sling on me. She ran the sling through some shopping bags with the finger loop as a slip knot and held it for the drive home. This kept them all standing upright.

I’ve used mine to tie doors open when moving, tease cats, stirred my kids, used it to drag the remote to me...

This all got me thinking- what else have people used their slings for? Not “possible” uses but real examples...

Whenever I make a sling, I ensure that it is blessed by one of the two cats.

If they do not scratch it, it must be a bad sling!  Grin

Grin Smiley Shocked Smiley

I’d like to see a demonstration of the remote dragging, this could be revolutionary!  Grin

I have used mine to tie a kayak off to a tree, or tie a few kayaks together.

I once used mine to secure my coffee cup against the wall on an oddly shaped shelf in an armored personnel carrier

I think everyone would know how to use the sling as a headband...

Of course, if you must use a sling as a headband, I would highly recommend a Huaraca or Tibetan sling, which would look pretty sling-blingage about the head. I do not recommend sisal fibre slings, however!

Just thinking of a sisal headband is making me itch. I have a very small sling I specifically made to work as a wrist band but honestly it's more a wristband that works as a sling (just) than a sling that works as a wrist band. Might need to go back to the concept and try again.

A friend told me that a simple cord sling I gifted him saved a lady on a hike in the mointains. Her shoelace snapped and the cord was perfectly sized to replace it.
