Kevlar Rockman
Jul 28th, 2018 at 12:41am

I've been playing around with kevlar a bit and wanted to share my latest offering: a kevlar pouch rockman sling. I picked the rockman for the last of my kevlar because I just think its a great design as far as woven pouches go. Unfortunately I didnt have enough kevlar left to make the entire sling out of it, but I got to use some of my new 275 paracord (chocolate brown and burgundy). My other kevlar sling has been fantastic, so I expect no less of this beauty. I hope this is inspiring. Dont hesitate to ask any questions or give any ideas and input I can try on my next sling.

Nice! How long is it? Is the knot at the end the release knot?

From center pouch to that big ol' release knot is 28 inches. Yeah thats the release knot. I like that with nylon and polypropylene you can lighter fuse knots you want to make them permanent.CrazyBrave333 wrote on Jul 28th, 2018 at 1:40am:

Thank you! I'd say its probably some of my best work yet. I am definately going to start using 275 cord and kevlar as the main medium for my synthetic slings.

Nice sling , although recently I've discovered I prefer light cords, less energy stays in the sling after release.

Thank you! I had a good time making it.

You would love kevlar string then. A single 2mm string is rated for 750lbs. I like my light slings for that reason, especially for smaller ammo, but having a nice stout braided one just feels good to me. Maybe i'll do some experimenting and try the rockman with lighter paracord and one in full kevlar to see if i can find a nice balance. As for this one though, im more than satisfied with how she launches whatever i put in it.

I almost exclusively use Dyneema cord woven in my "mersa" style. Also very strong light cordage.

Beautiful work Flint. I'm sure that pouch took awhile. It's so pretty I would be afraid to use it.

I'll have to try some of that. Can you fuse it with a lighter?
