Black walnuts
Jun 27th, 2018 at 8:50pm

Just recently started slinging and discovered a black walnut tree on my property, was pleasantly surprised at the apt ammo it made. Anyone else used things like that?

Anything that fits in the pouch: Apples, butternuts, potatoes, wild gourds, pine and fir cones, lobster mushrooms...  Wink

Cry Grin

Black walnuts are also good for getting worms when fishing.
But ya they make great ammo. I used to live in the Central valley of California which is a big agricultural area and black walnut had gone wild as well as other types of trees. Great for ammo and a snack when outdoors.

Horse Chestnuts also make excellent ammo.

My local park has black walnut trees ,as does my dentists office . I find that in the  husk they weigh about 1 and 3/4  .....2 oz.,they fly beautifully . I get sad when the rot and the squirrels get them.

I have a black walnut tree in my yard too.  Yep, love those things for slinging.  Although it really varies year to year what the tree produces.  Last year there was a ton, plenty of ammo.  This year there's nothing.  I also have a few apple trees in the yard and sling whatever the deer don't eat.

black walnuts make some nice easy ammo. You have to be careful not to get a rotting one though, they tend to fall apart on release. Fresh off the tree is excellent!
