After-Church Slinging
May 20th, 2018 at 4:53pm

I used one of my PJ slings against my target with some egg-tennis ball sized rocks. I am not a great target shooter yet as I was not very far away from it. needless to say though, I was impressed by the sheer power of each hit. Some grazed the top and made a pretty snazzy richochet. But what I'm really surprised is how today; the paint and plywood started to chip a lot.

You've got some power in those throws.

Looks like you're hitting the bull pretty frequently, too. Good shooting thus far. Is the target Balearic? Have you measured the range?

I haven't measured but it was around more or less ten feet, maybe close to fifteen at most. The target is Balearic STYLE, though the plywood is only thick enough to not have a hole punched in it, but sustain serious dents.

That's still pretty good, with the dents I do see.

If you keep moving out 5 feet each month, in a year ('bout time for the internationals...) you'll be about 75 feet away, or 22-ish meters.

That's a pretty hefty training plan, though.

What's the plywood thickness? 1/4 inch?

3/4

Edit: BTW, I only hit the bull few times, but you can probably see I got kinda close a good few times.

Judging by the surface texture, I don't think it's plywood. Looks like OSB wood. Still, that's a bunch of strong shots!

Keep playing!

Every time I target sling with rocks I surprise myself how powerful you can get a throw. I'm absolutely not a muscly guy at all and even I can leave big dents in the 2 inch thick wooden planks I use for targets. I've split multiple of them now just through sheer abuse Cheesy

Looks like some powerful hits on the target. Looking good! How many hits would you say you've made on it so far? Any idea how long you think it will last?

I don't know how many times I did (and didn't), hard to count it. Wink

As for the target; it's only a matter of time before a rock punches through the top right-ish area by the disk.

Just slap another layer of plywood on it and get back to slinging.

I have discovered that if you use normal boards, after a number of hits, they split.

I've mainly been releasing higher, I don't know how to fix that. But yeah, I think my next board is going to be made from actual plywood instead of OSB. I want to make it have the same structural integrity as a Viking shield for some experimentation. See if bombarding might eventually cause a shield to break.
