Sling Repair
Apr 21st, 2018 at 4:46am

I've been using this sling a lot recently on the beach at Lauttasaari and it's been SOOOO good. Annoyingly, a few rocks ended up being too rough and cut through one of the threads on the release end of the pouch. This was a big problem. If the whole thread broke the entire sling would fall apart and it was now holding on by only a few fibres. So this is my fix. I whipped about 7cm of the release cord and the end of the pouch with cotton thread. This should help keep it together and hopefully protect it a bit.

Only time will tell if this is enough. Luckily I have a lot of material left and I've already made a new one which I've already posted in the Pictures of Slings and Slinging topic.

I'm waiting on the day that my cord goes. It has been great but the shots are adding up.

You could maybe sew some leather on if that doesn't work, like balearic slings.

I use hockey tape. You only need a layer or two and it doesn’t make the sling much stiffer. And it’s fast and easy:)

I would sew leather on but this is such a small sling I think sewing it would get a bit fiddly. Hockey tape sounds good. I'll see how this works out and give an update.

It might not be as difficult as you think. It's awkward shapes where you need to take more care. Even fingerloops are pretty easy as it's just a rectangle.

Well I still have a lot of the jute left so that might well be my next project Cheesy Currently though I'm part way through making a gauntlet. Actually I should make a post about it...

I wax my braided ones with craft glue. I haven’t had to replace a cord on em yet. Well... on the Kevlar one, but my hemp one broke. But the glue makes it easy to see when there is wear and to fit it, just wax it with glue again in the abrasion spot. Plus it sticks all those stray threads down.
