Howdy from Texas!
Apr 8th, 2018 at 11:18am

Hello all!
I’ve been checking in here for years and decided I should actually join the conversation instead of anonymously stalking the forums. I’m a robotics engineer by day and I get enough high tech interaction at my job that it’s nice to come home sometimes and chuck rocks (or tennis balls) to unwind from a long day.

Most of my slinging practice is with a tennis ball in my too-small yard, because my dog brings the ammo back to me as long as I don’t throw it over the fence Smiley

Sure Judo, I’d be happy to talk shop on robotics some time.

@walter... I have maybe a half dozen paracord or leather slings around the house right now. I’ll try to post some photos after I get my kiddos to bed if I don’t fall asleep before they do Smiley

Photo attached of three of my tennis ball slings. The paracord sling is actually a dog leash with a split pouch sling built in. It’s actually a bit small for tennis balls, but works well with rocks.

The dark leather one is a basic symmetrical pouch sling with a leather round braid cord on the finger loop side and an untwisted 2-strand loop on the trigger side. The cords attach on either side to quick-change hooks made from hardened and tempered bailing wire. I also used a cheap-o $99 laser engraver to put a custom hurricane shield logo on the pouch.

The lighter leather sling on bottom is very similar to the dark one but with fewer details worked in.  It has a 2-strand twisted leather cord on both sides, a wrist loop instead of a finger loop, and the etched shield has mostly faded from wear. I wear that one around my neck most days in case there’s an opportunity to do some throwing wherever I might be.

... and a few detail shots of the quick change hooks, etched shield symbol and finger loop on the dark leather sling from the photo above.

Interesting. I haven't seen hooks like that used.

That’s because it’s my own design  Grin
I’m not sure the hooks are really any better than just using a knot, but it doesn’t seem to hurt either. Eventually I plan to run some experiments to see how adding a little mass at that spot affects the pouch release... just another thing to do in my copious free time.

Love the way you attach that 6-hole pouch.
The weight of the hooks will work like my big knots and open the pouch to avoid hitting the retention cord.

Those little laser engravers are fun - but limited I've got a 30x40cm one currently on it's way from hong kong.

I'll use lighter coloured leather and be able to engrave the entire pouch in one go Smiley

Cool stuff Smiley
