Log cabins
Mar 23rd, 2018 at 3:06pm

The continuation of the conversation from the slings and slinging thread. I find it crazy that so many of us have this same goal/want for a log cabin. Maybe it’s just because we lean towards the older side of things as is the case with slings. Some would ask why train using a sling when you could use a gun? There are lots of reasons, but one I believe bleeds over to this log cabin topic is that it’s the harder way, and therefore more enjoyable to us.

Going by what often pops up in the Other Topics, I think pretty much everyone on here has at the very least an appreciation for nature which is one of the big reasons I would want to live out in the middle of nowhere. The summer cottage is literally my happy place. It's where I go in my mind when I really need to (and I'm finally getting the chance to go back next week for Easter Cheesy ). The lake, the flora and fauna, light rain pattering, sunlight filtering through the leaves...

Sorry, I got a bit lost there.

For me it's peace of mind as well. Although I do appreciate the idea of rugged individualism, finding a place where you walk outside and feel completely at peace is a good feeling. It's hard for me to feel that in the city.

I completely agree, I have no idea how people are able to live inside big cities, the crowdedness and noises would drive me mad.

KTO and it sounds like a prime place for some slinging?

Walter,
That is freaking awesome.  Kudos, to both of you. That's my dream. I just can't deal with the heat. That's the reason I am moving north. To do that. Next weekend we actuallyover up to Maine.

It's where I learned and it's where I sling best. I've literally spent entire days at my "range". The only thing that stops me is the Sun going down and even then I drag it out for as long as I can. I only stop when I can't see the target anymore.

This is an old photo and there's not always snow on the ground but this is the view I'm always looking forward to seeing.

A log cabin is a dream of mine however if I had the ability and resource to build whatever I could want it's always a stone building , large heavy well laid stone. size dosnt bother me I love the simple life. A small stone dwelling with a solid roof and a wood fire . Pretty much in heaven

If I had a billion dollars a log cabin on a lake or river would still be my dream house.  Simplicity is best. If I had a mansion I'd have to have a staff to maintain it plus friends and relatives would want to move in and mooch off of me.  Just a small log cabin with a nice fireplace or wood stove, a little land to farm, and a water to fish in and I'd be in heaven. Having good sling stones all around would be good too.  And maybe a hot babe.

I know what you mean RM, I’ve personally never gotten why people want giant homes, it’s just more area to pay for, furnish, and upkeep. I want a simple home, not too small, not too big.
