Think about what that would do to your leg.

I find imagining the injuries a sling could cause both fascinating and really horrible. It's amazing that something that is, at its most basic, is some string can do so much damage.

I really want to try fresh bones.
I've now hit a sheep skull and this cow leg bone.
Both were older bones but. And I wonder how much flesh slows it down???

In about 1981 my friend slinging another guy in the panties. Throwing was a slow bounce. But the bone breaks and he was taken to the hospital.

that is a good quote and true.  but the ammo could be a toy if it is the right kind.  which is what is great about a sling in competent hands.... the right ammo could range from being a toy(sock balls), to a non lethal weapon that can still immobilize or incapacitate...or it can be very deadly.

Mersa, old bones are brittle. Fresh bones more elastic. They can dent a little without shattering, or break without shattering. Hair and hide will slghtly cusion the blow. Under the hair and hide there would probably be some crushed veins, arteries and tendons. So, a leg shot (thigh or shin) from a sling stone can easily cripple a large mammal. just sayin  Undecided

It should read something like this: "Stone hit the leg".
Google Translate is a confused one . Cheesy

Random thought: Back when slinging was a regular shepherding tool around the world, how many animals a year died to a misplaced throw?

These days kids get in trouble for not doing their homework. Back then maybe it was killing another of the family sheep.

Oddly enough, the same excuse might have been used for both. "The dog ate it."

Even the old brittle bone is pretty tough, I am using a piece of cow leg bone to make the spike in a war club.  It's a replica of an early 17th century war club, the bone used in that one is unknown but is suspected to be either horse, bison or elk.

Only way to tell is to take a scraping and check the DNA.  The curator about had a heart attack when that was suggested.

All that can be told about the bone was that it had been cooked or heated after it had been ground to shape.  So, I boiled mine for about 15 minutes.
