call me cynical, but that looks like a sling that's been rubbed with mud to make it look old

I'd be more surprised if that is a real review below it as that means somebody actually paid 900 for a sling

Yeah, I also find it hard to believe something made of natural fiber could last that long.

The review is actually for a different item but from the same seller.
I don't know. I think it could be real (the sling I mean) although that would mean there's a chance it's been nicked from somewhere and if it is genuine it's rather a shame it's on etsy and not in a museum...
Either way I'm not forking over 900 quid for it.

Wow, those slings are really well preserved, if they are actually that old.

Nice slings Hubert. I'm always amazed at the amount of skill these people had to produce such works of art.

Never buy stuff like that. Most are fake. If it's real, it's almost always looted from a grave or an important site that the looters usually destroy in the process of getting stuff to sell.
Buying this type of item encourages the destruction of irreplaceable sites.
That's one of the reasons I like this site, most people on here look at the item and go, "I can make one of these," and do so. And in the process, they may be recreating a technique that was lost to time.

Don’t worry, I’m definitely not wanting to buy it, I just wanted to bring it up and see what y’all thought.

Definitely a nice find Drakolith. I could see it being real, but I agree, probably not worth buying for all the reasons stated.
