Hello from...

Hi everyone!
Finally got around to making an account here!
Slinging isn't in my blood, given that I come from one of the cultures that never really developed slinging(hint hint: chopsticks), but it's certainly a wonderful exercise to connect with ancient history!
I've gotten several slings from fellow forum members, and made 2 attempts making them myself(abysmal failures), and I've only slung a grand total of 2 stones before, but I hope to get better!
Eager to learn more!

Welcome from Finland! Don't give up on making slings. I've found if you have a lot of slings made, you can bury the early bad ones at the bottom of the pile Cheesy

Hello and welcome from the uk!

Have a look round the forum for good designs- My 4th sling was my first one that actually worked, but I've made 30-40 since that are generally improved from that stage!

If you lack equipment you can make a reasonably effective braided split pouch with 100% just twine. Options increase if you get leather, a hole punch, sewing equipment etc

Tutorial for basic split pouch:

Note: I'd recommend 5-6m for a decent length sling not 3m. Maybe it's a matter of how tight you braid but I'd struggle to reach 20'' with 3m cord, which is very short for a sling.

Thanks everyone! I'll keep trying!
I bet it's definitely rewarding when one uses a sling they made themselves!

Welcome from Texas! It is very rewarding to use ones own sling. We have some real master sling makers here but there's nothing quite like using your own.

Hello from Alabama.

Seeing as how slinging is pretty much a human thing, I'll bet if you go back far enough, you'll find some slingers in your ancestors past, somewhere.

I might have been for hunting, herding animals, war or just to throw a rock a long way but the chances are pretty good that somewhere back there, there are some slingers.

I bet someone figured out how to sling snowballs with a blanket or something.
