Hello from Oklahoma
Jan 12th, 2018 at 1:48pm

Hello all! I'm from central Oklahoma and have just gotten into slinging as a hobby.

I built a paracord-and-jean sling years ago but never really got a good opportunity to use it (Not many rocks here in central OK, and living in the middle of a city is not conducive to slinging).

I'm very interested in implementing modern materials in sling construction and design--currently I'm experimenting with Amsteel and a dyneema webbing to eliminate loss of energy from elasticity.

The included photo is what I've been using to throw Kong balls for my doggo at the park.

Welcome , I believe I'm the only one using a dyneema sling on here , good to see someone else trying it.
Gotta love splicing hollow braid

Welcome Seeking_Numinous. Using Amsteel and dyneema seems like an interesting idea. I'm currently experimenting with Kevlar and steel wire and so far it is turning out great. Perhaps with both of our findings we could develop a sling that is far stronger than any other.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas!

Mersa,
I got the amsteel idea from my Hammocking research.
Hollow braid is awesome--I have a one-way adjustable split pouch but unfortunately I haven't worked out a reliable limiting stopper to the adjustment.  So if I adjust the pouch too large the bury will come loose and I'll have to re-bury the end.  I'd like to find a way to use some sort of webbing for a split pouch and the amsteel for the sling arms.

TobyAttle
How are you using Kevlar? As a webbing?  I know you can get two or three-inch types at various places. I bet that would make a great pouch.

walter
Thanks man! ...I had intended to cut that off, but I'm not confident in my knot placement with this sling yet--it will be gone soon. Wink

The Kevlar I use is marketed as kite string, so I can get long lengths of thin and very strong Kevlar string for cheap.
