Biconical question.
Jan 7th, 2018 at 11:31am

Are Biconicals supposed to spin vertically?

I've noticed that several of my clay biconicals tend to spin vertically in flight from a side-arm throw.

Is this supposed to happen, I always imagined that they were supposed to spin more like rifling instead of end over end like a knife throw.

I've also noticed that they tend to make a noise. Not like flatter, angular rocks do, but a noticeable sound regardless.

No.

the problem is probably in the way you grab the sling. it's difficult to help you fix that without a vid . maybe someone else can help you.

They're supposed to spin like rifle bullets in flight.Ideally. But it can be hard to get that. Biconical design, sling design, and style of throw has to be right,to get it right.
Biconicals of max 2.5 times length to width ratio, symmetrical glans, wide grip on sling (loop on ring finger) ,and proper technique will help achieve a proper rifle spin.

You also need to make them symetrical.
These can help: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1496247190

Basically jlasud is right, only with the finger I have to contradict. I use my index finger and I throw 95% + with Rifle-spin.
Jacki, with your new Huaraca, that should not be a problem.

I've only been slinging since late August of 2017, so there could be a problem with my technique.

Largely I think It is simply down to being a problem with my ammunition. I think I made them too long and thin.

Sometimes it's the sling, sometimes its the slinger and sometimes it's the ammo. Good info in the replies. Troubleshoot by changing one thing at a time. The most difficult thing to fix is your throwing style so I would start with the other two first and see if that fixes it.

Usually I have no problem but sometimes my biconical projectiles will start out vertical then tip over into a rifled spin flight. Usually it's just poor technique when this happens.

I was down at the beach, throwing rocks into the sea, trying to get my rifle-spin practice down.

I managed to get a few successful spins with my biconical clay slingstones.

Success!!

Next up on the list is to aim for getting 200 meter throws!

You can start with overhand style. It is easy to control the pouch's right detachment position. This picture is from one of my videos; and thrown in overhand style:
