New years slinging video '18
Jan 6th, 2018 at 5:17pm

Headed out today to have a quick slinging session before I'm back to uni. Managed to get my dad out to capture a good few throws on camera too  Smiley

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orxnryw0gYw&t=2s

I'd be interested if anyone can put a proper name to my overarm/balearic-ish style technique on the long sling, and also tips for byzantine which I'm not quite up to scratch with.

Your Byzantine is looking good.
And I would say you've made some improvements from the last video I saw of you.

what's your current max distance?

next time for long range try instead of facing 90degrees before the target by facing 180 degrees and the throwing arm @180-270 degrees . you should start with one or two jumps on the right leg before starting rotating legs-hips torso arms. like a shot put glide start . use light stones, the pull will be big.

Thanks Mersa- I kinda feel like the byz works ok but there seems like I could get a lot more out of it, kinda feels like a lot is coming from my arm but not much from the rest of my body.

@Parm- I'm not exactly sure what range I'm getting on the long shots. I've only measured one of those (rough pacing) which went around 150m, I reckon I've gone a little further than that on my furthest shots though. Need to find somewhere where I can measure the range easily.

I will try get those techniques going next time I go slinging- not sure when that'll be though, barely get out these days  Sad

the only overarm you did were the fig 8 and byzabtine. All the rest were sidearm.

It's based on the orientation of the final throw Smiley

Above your shoulder, overarm, below the sholuder: sidearm, below the waisdt: underarm.
Everything else is just random names people have made up over thebyears to confuse newbies Smiley
I'd love to see ANYONE doing parms hop skip and jump technique, while simultanes#ously looking backwards.

You're still a fidgety little bugger, but it's coming on.  Smiley

One thing you're not doing, is using your waist. You're turning your whole body too soon.

But other than that it all looks good to me Thumbs Up

Have alook at luis versus his mate.

If you see luis is still during his windup, but drops his knee to bring the hips and waist into play and driving with the back foot during the actual throw.
He also starts the throw low and brings it up into the release zone, gaining a little extra power in the process.
His mate. on the other hand, keeps his body stiff and his throw his quite high.

You really can't do much better than try and emulate luis Smiley
As he would no doubt tell you whistle

Your throws look good to me. The byzantine looked fine. I agree the hips could move s little more but I struggle with that myself so can't offer much advice.

Still all in all they looked very fluid and powerful.

Thanks all, yes it's a nice little beach that one- the only disadvantage is that there isn't any solid surface to stand on, so you end up half losing your footing on some throws.

RE: The overarm thing- it really does feel like an overarm action. I think because of the initial velocity going into the throw it comes out quite differently to a fig-8 for example, but it's the same (or similar) action from my arm. The 'sidearm' throw at the end is actually almost underarm in action from me, though it comes out sidearm.

I'll have to see if I can get some more practice in soon to smooth out the action, hopefully get a few more meters... and you know... maybe work on accuracy someday  Grin
