Maybe the militiaman recovered the flat top helmet off a dead Imperial knight or man at arms. His main weapon, clearly, is the spear.

Exactly, and I was also thinking of giving him a boat hook instead, to underline his role of a commoner called to arms and equipped with his everyday's tools.
Mention of the use of boat hooks as weapons among my ancient fellow citizens are recorded for a century and a half later, when the town was conquered by the Papacy and Albornoz built a fortress there.
The citizens then raged and assaulted this fortress, conquering it and demolishing it to the ground - the use of boat hooks by the assaulters to pull down the defenders from the walls is recorded on that occasion...

But I don't know, it feels that the spear is a good choice as well  Smiley
