Maybe, but I think that could be better described as "a sling with the knotted end attached to a staff, and the loop on the other end pulled over said staff"
From the description there, I'm imagining on one side of the pouch there is string and the other, a stick.

a stick in the place of retention cord? Huh anyone tried it?
it might be easier(faster) to start the rotations since it's a stick.

It somewhat reminds me of the Penobscot stick sling that Coyote Slinger did a video on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCVkrVSWwPs

Of course this sounds different with a manual release (the Penobscot sling not having any release) but the idea of having a short stick in place of a staff. Don't see why it wouldn't work.

short stick attached to a retention cord does work, but is futzy.  Thoght all I accomplished there was to complicate an ancient weapon that is beautiful in its simplicity Undecided

Yes. I had a video up of it. Must have taken it down at some point. It does work fairly well. It's definitely faster to get the shot off as well as easier to be accurate with. You need the right type of wood though. It has to be thin and strong. I nicknamed it the semisling.

Morphy , point me in the direction of this video.
Haven't seen you sling yet .
I'm interested in seeing both.
In your version did you hold the stick or was it attached to a finger/wrist ??
Any misshaps hitting yourself with the stick

I only have one slinging video up these days I believe. It's very old and not particularly impressive. I took the rest down due to my unrealistic desire for perfectionism with the intent to redo them and get "reaaallllly good footage." Then life happened and years later Im still trying to find time to do everything.

I had a video up of 30 meters on a 9 inch circle. Had pretty good consistency but apparently not good enough. Should've just kept it up. The semisling video is long gone though some of our old timers saw the video. I have a couple months free starting yesterday so I'm hoping to get a sling made and at least one slinging video done. (Two years of rust so don't expect a lot.) I'll try to get another semisling made as well.

Hell, maybe I can even send Teg his award for winning the first 1up competition a few years ago.  Tongue

As far as the semisling goes, the stick is the retention cord and it has a leather cross strap that helps you hold it while slinging. The release cord is normal and there's a Y-fork at the end where one side of the pouch is and the other is hanging open.
