Back In Business
Nov 1st, 2017 at 1:56pm

Some of you who have been around here for a while may recall that I used to have quite a large tribe of neighborhood kids as my slinging disciples.  As I walked the neighborhood and local woods with my two Huskies, Kali and Odin, I would sling where ever safe and appropriate.  For what ever reason I caught the kids interest.  All of the kids knew me as The Sling Man.  I taught dozens of them how to sling and a handful how to make them. I would always have slings in my backpack for those who asked. The dogs got old and died and the kids all grew up and found other things to do so I've been idle as far as my slinging instructing goes.
My new roomie, Mike, who I rent my attic to has two daughters, Maya and Hanna, 12 and 10, who he has custody of every other weekend.  During their last weekend here we introduced them to slinging. We had them launch tennis balls in the back yard and I demonstrated a few hard shots with stones over the lake.  Hanna sort of liked it and Maya was hooked. Maya made me promise to show her how to make slings on her next weekend here.  So after a long hiatus I am back in business. I'm looking forward to teaching some new enthusiasts .

Awesome good stuff, I am always giving quick lessons. Love seeing young kids picking it up.

Its always good to see that light in someones eyes when they suddenly realize how cool the sling is. Ive only found one young person who Ive seen that in. Maya is sort of a perfect name for a slinger too.  Smiley

Congrats, more to learn this ancient art!

I had invited a Girl in my German class not too long ago to at least receive a sling. I also asked a couple of dudes if they wanted not only a sling but also when I refine my technique to teach them. That Girl had the most eager expression I've ever seen on anyone wanting to have a sling. She wants what I call a, "Timpa-esque sling." But I'll make her a shorter sling to go with it anyway, those long slings are rough on beginners I imagine.

They love the dogs but Ka the Ball Python is the main attraction.  You'd think they'd be terrified of him but they're spellbound.
