Don't sling trees , unless they're dead.

I thought you were being silly and talking about slinging entire trees.. I thought that would take a pretty big pouch..  Finally I realized you meant slinging at trees (using them as targets).  Thanks for the reminder and good advice!  I may even give one a hug for you for good measure..  Grin

I'm also guilty of having trees in the firing line.
In some outdoor settings it is inevitable that trees will be struck when slinging. Just take into consideration where those trees are and what they support. Accidentally hitting a tree when slinging outside isn't a problem.
If you have a permanent range setup it's important to think about the damage you might cause.
Dead trees are the best.
Invasive pest trees next
Non indegenous trees last.

My last range was setup in a abandoned introduced pine plantation where the the trees supported almost no native ecological benefits and little to non human benefits.
The place is often used buy off-road vehicles and seconds as an illegal dump.

Hope I haven't bored you all with my tree talk.

I think it's a good thing to bring up. I always feel guilty when I hit a tree and try to avoid it but then I live in Finland which is basically trees and lakes Cheesy

Oh, perhaps I shouldn't shoot at trees then. Thanks for the information. As for the question, I used to shoot at a speed-limit sign a while back but now I'm in need of another target. Perhaps at the tops of hills or something like that.

I suggest a big frying pan. As long as there are no neighbours to annoy, they make a great clang Cheesy

There's some big boulders on the beach near me. If you hit them with decent power, the stone you chuck basically explodes, it's a quite impressive demonstration of sling power.

I had no idea about the trees, I do tend to sling at them when I'm walking but may look for better targets.

Love a good reactive target.
Visual or audio.
Explosions bangs crashes clangs thuds Sparks lights.
Probably the reason I like slinging into water so much.
And the good old glass bottle, but the cleanup.

Yeah trees are awesome, there pretty much why we go on walks to forests and parks alike. Some of the oldest living organisms on the planet!!!

I've also gotten sparks, from my target, as well as one time when I hit a chain link fence, it was dim and it made a big spark.

I used to get sparks with slingstones hitting boulders. It makes some pretty cool effects at dusk.  Careful in dry territory though. Easy to start a fire that way.
