What's your target?

I was wondering, what do y'all shoot at for practice? Here's my target, though I moved it recently to be on the tip of a drop, overlooking a lake.

I used to use a circular rubber swinging target made for rifles. Worked very well for me. Anytime Ive used cans or other such targets they get destroyed fairly quickly so having a target that will never break is very helpful.

Rubber, that's a really good idea. But personally, I think I'd prefer my metal plate, that bong when you hit it is so satisfying  Grin

Tring to find a spot in my new town to set up a sling range .
Usually I try to stick to the Balearic format if I'm setting up a permanent range . Use whatever is available to make it.
Targets on the go are usually a lot smaller such as beer cans or tree stumps . When throwing for distance I like to throw across a body of water and use the bank on the other side as the target. Then I can get estimated distance on Google maps. Splash for to short thud for far enough. But I guess my real target is being sufficiently skilled enough to hunt successfully with only the sling. I think that's the hardest target.

Mersa, is it going to just be a training spot for you? Or are you planning on using to to train people in the art of slinging?

Nice target, kicktheotter. Also, you have a very beautiful forest.

The picture is somewhat deceptive. The area to the left out of shot and up the bank is a path and actually a fairly major road. No chance of any shots heading up there but apparently close enough for people along the path to throw there rubbish from the nearby McDonald's... It's quiet and out the way enough for using a big metal pan and not disturb anyone but it's been raining a lot recently and I can only assume it's a mud pit now Cheesy

Ah, I see. That's a shame.

Well, you could try and change that  Grin One if my goals, personally is to get as many people interested/into slinging that I can.

Im in the same boat as Mersa. Have been for eh... my whole slinging career.  Sad
But one of my dreams, (besides slinging with Bigfoot in the PNW) , is to start a sports bar/primitive weapons range. You could bring your own or we would rent out atlatls, bows, slings etc. There would shooting ranges set up for it. You could watch the game, eat some wings have a beer and then challenge your friend to a round of slinging or atlatl. To me that would be a blast. Not sure if anyone would actually show up though lol. Actually this being Texas we would probably have a healthy crowd most nights.  Smiley

Political signs that are always around. They stand up well, and it's a bonus if it has the candidate's picture on it.

Don't sling trees , unless they're dead.
Sorry if I sound stupid but I'm very passionate about it.
I'm a arborist and trees is what I know.
You are almost garranteed to damage the living growing tissue of the tree.
Also trees don't heal. They compartmentalise the damaged or infected tissue. Essentially it never gets better.
This can snowball into tree decline. failure and even death.
What seems like a superficial wound may cause major structural defects later on.
I know this won't stop everyone slinging trees , but maybe you can all think twice about it.
Esspecially when there is a large, rare or old specimen.
Most of us don't sling at animals and I'm sure that the people that do are effectively hunting. Try to be nice to the trees.
Unlike animals that trees gonna stay in the same spot and if you continually use the same tree it will effect it.
Hopefully you all take this onboard.
