Beads for release cords
Oct 3rd, 2017 at 4:50pm

So, on my last sling I made, I used a bead at the end, but it turns out that it's too small, kept slipping though my fingers, so I tied a bit of paracord in front of it to make a knot to grab, it works great now, but  the knot is ugly. Tips on how to fix that would be nice. I couldn't find any beads at my local hobby shop that looked like they would work well, and online, the ones I ended up ordering were too small. So, does anyone know a site where I can get good beads for slings? My problem was that I wanted a decent sized bead about the size of a simple paracord overhand knot, but with small hole.

Make your own.
Drill a hole in some wood and whittle it into the desired shape and sand and paint.
Or a small clay bead.

That is an option. Though, not clay for me as I sometimes use my sling as a whip, I don't think clay could take that impact very long.

use a small rubber ball and drill a hole.
There are any number of wooden, plastic or rubber things that could be adapted.

Personally I'd just print one out of flexible pla.

That's good idea. Though, I would be afraid that the rubber bead would stretch over the knot holding it in place.

Use something that can take a beating. Some materials will break after a few errant shots nick the bead.

Personally Ive not experienced this problem because "ugly knots" are a prerequisite on my slings. But to each their own!  Wink

I would suggest finding good looking knot instead too.
I personaly use tripple overhand.

Knots are also a little less hard in case you get hit with the end. I've been practicing using a bit more power (not that recently thanks to all the rain...) and half the time the sling ended up wrapped all the way around me and sometimes, when I was using a sling long enough, wrapped all the way round and hit the back of the hand holding the loop Cheesy It's never a very hard hit but with even a quite small bead it could get painful.

Well, usually I like knots, but my problem is that the the paracord I added contrasts to the yellow Kevlar. Also, I recently found some wooden beads that seem alright, only time will tell.
