I just got a fox whistle.
Anyone used them before? Much success?

presumably you mean a  fox call - it's supposed to mimic the cry of a an injured animal, which attracts the fox.

It's a horrible noise.
never used one - but they are supposed to be pretty effective.

Yeah it's pretty loud. My gf hates it already. Walking around the house whistling.

Is it a whistle or a squeal?  Sort of like the scream of a rabbit being eaten alive by a hawk or house cat?  Starting from the liver?

That's the sound it's making if you know how to blow it.  If you just blow real hard, it just makes a really annoying squeal.  Grin
