It's a horrible noise. never used one - but they are supposed to be pretty effective.

Sort of like the scream of a rabbit being eaten alive by a hawk or house cat? Starting from the liver? That's the sound it's making if you know how to blow it. If you just blow real hard, it just makes a really annoying squeal.
