That's awesome. I love cave paintings and petroglyphs. It gives you such a tangible connection to the past. Really shows you how human they were.

Any idea what that first picture is showing? At first I thought maybe an archer? I can see what might look like a bottom limb but no top.

Also, are these well known petroglyphs or did you happen upon them accidentally?

I don't know, but think archer. The zigzag line is thought to mean long walk.

The area is known. Not well known. Was unknown to me. It's a ledgey area on both sides of a dry wash. There are also matates worn into the ledge.
No grifitti - yet.

Instead of an archer, that could also be a slinger.  Left handed, In mid throw.

Any idea how old?  The bow in N America is only about 3000 years old, maybe less.

Bill, don't know exact dates, but probably before 1000 AD as there is a village about a half mile west that is believed to have been occupied from 1100 to 1200AD.

My pic of the matates suck, but you can tell it took a long time to wear away the granite.
