Making nice holes in turtle shells?
Aug 15th, 2017 at 10:37pm

A friend of mine gave me a turtle shell. I am thinking of making a rattle or a pouch out of it. I am looking for someone who has experience with making clean holes in the shell for stitching. Any info appreciated.

diamond bit and a rotary tool.
For something like shell you're better off using a grinding bit than a drill. Drills are prone to creating flakes. A rotary tools round grinding bit will make a much smoother cleaner hole.

I take it this is not the shell of an endangered species ?

Not that I'm aware of. My friends dad found the shell on the ground in the Midwest. No turtle inside. Thanks for the info.
