eBay Sling
Aug 15th, 2017 at 2:03pm

Ok so this isn't actually an "Other Topic" but I didn't think the "General Discussion" was the best place for it.

I've been thinking of maybe selling slings on eBay so went to go see what is currently being sold and came across this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/David-Goliath-Shepard-sport-slingshot-target-shooting-...

The Viper S1 Marksman Sharpshooting slingshot.

£10.00 plus £2.80 P&P.

According to the description "RRP: £25.00
slings of this quality can cost $50 or more in the USA".

Now, call me crazy but it kind of looks like a paracord sling almost anyone on this forum could make in about 5 minutes. That's some expensive paracord...

On one hand it fills a market niche. There are many that would try slinging if they could just buy a relatively cheap one.

That being said Im always vaguely digusted by marketing names like the "Viper 1" or whatever the hell it was called lol. (My mind is already erasing it from my concious memory it seems.)

The sling is a thing of tradition and beauty. So far we've managed to have many really talented sling makers sell their slings without that type of gimmicky advertising. Lets hope that never becomes mainstream.

I've made so many now I've considered putting a few on ebay too. Problem is I just experiment all the time instead of sticking to a good design, and soon I won't have as much time to make them.

Looks like this user has gone for the hard sell- $50 for this? Never. Also RRP? Recommended retail price by who?

Also, I'm not sure you could call any sling a 'marksman' weapon...

Those look like Sh!t, one of the reasons I steer clear of just paracord  slings. Too heavy in my opinion.  I.just stick to seat belt slings,  and all natural materials. I sell on etsy, that's where it's meant to be at. Not on ebay. It's changed so.much since it started,  I  rarely use ebay any more. I never sold, just buy. I don't expect to be rich with my etsy shop, but it helps.

Problem with small pouch slings like that is that it encourages beginners to start with stone rather than tennis balls.

Love the name, lol

Probably time I Started making and selling more slings.

Vetryan, I agree that those slings aren't the most beautiful I've ever seen.  They are not worth fifty bucks or even a fraction of it.  But some of the most beautiful, durable, and functional slings I've ever made were from Paracord.  Don't sell it short.  If you feel that it's too thick then gut it... remove the inner threads.  A long time ago a member sent me a sling made from gutted Paracord.  Until I wore it out it was one of my favorites.  I like Polypropylene equally, as far as synthetics go.
As far as the slings pictured go, if I was feeling really lazy I might buy one for ten bucks. No more though.

My best sling is a paracord and slingshot pouch (As in an actual rubber powered slingshot pouch. Really far too large to be a good slingshot pouch but makes a great sling pouch). It was the first sling I ever made and it accidentally turned out absolutely perfect for my height, arm length, type and size of ammo I had available. Can always depend on it.

Ratman, I started out makimg paracord slings. That's how I learned out to weave. I don't have any issues with that.  But as stated the price is way out there, if you are sellimg those, at least make them look good. Not even 'David the shepherd ' sells them that high, but his work is still nicer then the one the OP is referring to. The slings I sell. The most expensive is still not even close. My edc is actually mutiple seat belt slings, half of the time I don't even realize I have em in my pocket.

Agreed.  The price is WAY too high for such simple, crude slings.

But...it's called the viper s1? That's got to be worth something...

For what it's worth I also am coming out with a cheaply made, overly priced paracord sling. Its called the Pale-Throated Sloth Mark 3.

...

It's guaranteed to make you a better slinger and is Chot approved.
