Blue or Red Pill
Aug 10th, 2017 at 6:02pm

Here's a question I admittedly stole directly off of Facebook. You are offered a choice of two pills. The blue pill will take you back to the age of ten with your current knowledge.  The red one will jump you to age forty with forty million tax free dollars.
To me, especially at my age, this one's a no brainer.  Forty million is chicken feed compared to what I could make with my current knowledge. I was ten in 1964. I could write every great song ever written.  I could steal The Beatles best, "write" Tommy, steal Dylan's very best songs, swipe all of Hendrix's licks and antics (some of which he stole from The Who), etc... I would know in advance the results of every major sporting event.  I would know what areas were going to get built up.... like the casinos coming to Atlantic City.  I could invent the internet, Windows, Yahoo, Facebook, etc... the possibilities are endless.
On a personal level I would avoid many of the stupid mistakes I made.  Also I would be able to warn family members and friends of pitfalls they were heading for. I would be a ten year old with many decades of experience in martial arts so I could go visit some of my worst oppressors and settle some scores. Maybe that would be the best part.  Not say a word, just let them do their bullying then... they'd never know what hit them.
I would also know what kind of women the girls I knew would grow up to be.  I'd probably make a real play for Susan Muller, an opportunity I badly squandered back in the day.
To my surprise many people on Facebook took the forty million at age forty.  I guess if one was young that would be a more viable option.
Which pill do you take?

Ooooo. I would probably choose neither but if I had to choose I'd take the same as you. I'm a big believer in "your mistakes make you who you are" so I don't think I would try and change much.

go back to 40 and be stinking rich.

Yep that's a no brainer. Okay so I only gain 9 years of life.
But I was fully fit back then with none of the injuries I've picked up since.
My 40th was a fantastic birthday.

And with that kind of money - I'll stay fitter longer and be able to afford immortality gene re-writing when it's available.

Being ten with a 48 year old brain - would be an absolute nightmare.
You'd lose your childhood, nobody would believe you and most likely you'd end up either locked up in an asylum or running away from your family and all the problems that gives a 10 year old.

You're not of  a legal age to buy microsoft shares as soon as they appear.
And any investments you make will take time to generate money.

Bear in mind also that at that age your brain is far from fully developed - will all your existing memories fit, make sense or stay easy to access ?
Doubtful.

And ratman - you would not meet any of the people from your original life, as you wouldn't live that life again.

I'd choose neither. If I had to choose.... I guess I'd choose to be 40.

If I went back and avoided many of the mistakes I made when I was younger and more idealistic, I don't know that I would be with my wife and have my 2 daughters. I'd hate to lose the time between here and 40 with them, but better that than miss them entirely.

Thats a tough one. I tend to agree being young and not only feeling smarter than your parents but actually being smarter with no ability to control your life would be pretty frustrating. Sure... I would invest in Google, Amazon and Bitcoin and be filthy rich but I would likely not have my family anymore once I got to the age I am now. So I would choose neither and ride this life out the way it is.

Bitcoin ?

Well if you buy one share in apple and one in microsoft at the first float. By now you'd be worth many hundreds of millions.
By the time amazon and google come around, you'll be making money just for the hell of it to give away Smiley

Also you'll be depriving your parents of their 10 year old child. That's extreme cruelty.

Bitcoin, anonymous digital currency. In October 2009 it was selling at 1 bitcoin for 1/10 of a penny. Now its selling at over 3,000 dollars per bitcoin. If you had invested 5 dollars in it back in '09 just for laughs you would be worth over $15,000,000 dollars right now.  For a measly 100 dollars worth you would be well over $300,000,000.

And yes, I would be giving it away hand over fist. I would probably create a fund that paid for peoples schooling or housing with some absurdly low interest rate, like .1 percent.  Once you have enough for your needs, its pointless to hoard that much wealth.

what if you keep the blue pill and take it at your deathbed?
that will give you the chance to leave a healthy , disciplined life and a badass one  Cool

Curious Aardvark said it right.
10 years old is pretty boring , an adult mind couldn't possibly stand another 10 years waiting until freedom.
make it 16-20 and it becomes a lot more interesting. Wink

a little irrelevant but
has anyone watched the movie" the man from earth"?

My mother would think me insane but I'm pretty sure I could take my dad and brother Danny aside and convince them that I was for real. I went to bed not knowing how to type... now I can. I went to bed not knowing Tae Kwon Do. Now I do. I went to bed not knowing Algebra and Physics. Now i do. I went to bed talking and thinking like a child. Now I'm more adult than either of you. Even if they were dubious at first once the predictions I made started comimg true they'd be believers. Things like the nut spiking the Tylenol with Cyanide in Chicago. That killed seven people and is the reason all meds and food products have safety caps today. I would predict the end of DDT use and the reasons for doing so, something that was amost unfathomable in 1964. I could easily make dozens of such predictions and convince them that I was a 63 year old man in a 10 year old's body. Then I could guide them into helping me make us all stinking rich. And I could woo Susan Muller. And kick Mickey Pribamski's ass.  Being 40 again with 40 million wouldn't be bad but I stared making big mistakes long before that. I'd definitely take the fresh start even if I did have to go through puberty again.

I've thought about this quite a bit and want to change my answer.  I would take the red pill.  Going back to age ten would absolutely not work for me for many reasons.  Not only would most of the people I know and love never exist, the many wonderful pets I've had I would never know, and none of my dearest friends would ever know me.  None of my experiences would be the same. Essentially I would be killing off the man I am now.  More than that, there were many unpleasant things about my childhood that I would never want to live through again.   After giving it much thought I would definitely take the red pill.

got to admit forty was a pretty good year.
It's been steadily downhill from there mind.

Would things have been sigificantly better if I won the lottery at 40 ?
Yeah, definitely.

I'd probably still have the diabetes, but I wouldn't be stony broke and trying to start a brand new business at the age of 51.

cest la vie Smiley

I can't say either of them are a good deal for me at 30. I think both would be extremely hard emotionally.
I think I would probably go back to 10 and try things differently.
