Throwline
Aug 3rd, 2017 at 3:10am

Throwline it's what I've been doing as an arborist(tree climber/tree surgeon) for over 10 years to install climbing ropes in the canopy. With hand thrown shots somewhat limited to 30-40m but still with good accuracy just line weight and friction become issues with the bag coming back to the ground.
Throw bags range between 6oz and 14oz and Throwline is usually a braided dyneema (what I use for all my slings) between 1mm and 3mm.

For higher shots some people use a big shot (basically a oversized slingshot on a pole).
And for the highest trees a crossbow fires a bolt with thin braid fishing line then the throw line is pulled into the tree using the fishing line and then the Throwline pulls in your climbing line.

Wish I was as accurate with my sling as I am with my Throwline.

Little video I found to show some techniques.
