A good day slinging
Jul 8th, 2017 at 7:10pm

I recently took a bunch of old fishing sinkers I had and melted them up and made some new ammo. Pretty primitive lead cylinders about 1 inch by 1 inch. I gave them there madden voyage yesterday and had a great day. I didn't lose any of them in the pine Forrest where I was slinging and was able to find some junk for a target. A sheet of metal measuring 110cm by 130cm and a plastic disk exactly 50cm diameter. So I made my best attempt at an official size junk target or close enough any way. I only had shots from 10 meters as my friends cars dogs ect were everywhere. I was hitting the board almost every shot with a few hitting the disk in the centre. I don't feel I was able to get as much speed out of the new projectiles but the mass made up for the speed with a bang .

Then my friend asked , why don't you just throw it.??
I guess standing at a somewhat close distance you could just throw at it but I would never throw as hard as I sling , my friend however is built like a brick shithouse and can throw.

That got me thinking , for me I can't throw hard but using the sling I can all day and am starting to become more consistently accurate. For him he can throw hard and has little interest in learning the sling because of the inherent inaccuracy at the beginning.

For me accuracy and power is what I want from my sling . Distance is less important to me if I can't hit what I'm aiming at its the same as blindly shooting an arrow on 45. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy trying to throw something as far as I can but there's noting like seeing the success of a hit.

So what is it for you guys??

Also got some footage if CA approves.

I agree. While it can be relaxing to just sling as far as you can, there is nothing like the satisfaction of hitting your target. I'm getting better at accuracy, but only at short distances. I would be interested to know what slinging style you use for accuracy?

With the sling you can throw all day and achieve high speeds.  You can't do that by hand. I enjoy the relaxed aspect of throwing with a sling. You get the power and the speed with little effort.

I read on here somewhere that an efficient sling is a good sling!! Least effort maximum effect.

I'm much more interested in accuracy also. I can sling a fair distance and its fun during winter to sling across frozen lakes but otherwise I prefer having a target.

lol - that's one busy throw.

Try not waving your trailing leg in the air.
hilarious as it looks Smiley

Turn sideways on to the target and try to just use your waist, initially, to generate power.
Keep your feet on the ground.

Start with less power and build up accuracy first.

Cool target Thumbs Up

Shot from 20m today . Using limestone rocks so I didn't need to fetch. Way less consistent today with only one shot hitting the disk and much less hitting the board than last week.

Worked on my technique . Less leg flailing
