Apache sling tutorial.
Jun 26th, 2017 at 11:56pm

So I decided to make a tutorial for my apache sling, as I am not able to find any here, I think this may be helpful.

So, let's get started! First you will need 3 strands of your material, for the needed length of these I reccomend using this formula X x 3  (X is the total length of the sling you want stretched one end to the other ) so I wanted about 64 overall, and I reccomend adding about 0.5 to factor in when your pouch opens up. So, for me it's 64.5 x 3 = 193.5 inches. Each strand will need to be the answer you get.

So after you get all three, lay them out and fold them all in half.

Then, you will want to get a small piece of sting and tie up the middle.

Now begin braiding a flat braid. Just in case you don't know how to I'll demonstrate it here (1st step to braiding) it is done loosely here to demonstrate, but you should do it tightly.

You can wrap it around your finger comfortably.

Then, untie the string and combine the strings and braid a few times.

Now, at this point I reccomend putting the loop on a fixed point like a nail, drawer knob, etc. And keep braiding until...

You reach half minus half the size of the pouch you want. Now you will want to split the strings into 2 sets, with 1 string from each of the sets of 2 you were just braiding. And tie one of the sets of three with a small bit of string.

Now braid one side to you desired length, then remove the tie from the other side and use it, or a clip on the side you just braided to hold it together.

Then begin braiding the other side, and once it is at the same length as the other, combine them into 3 sets of 2 strings (1 string from each of the 2 bundles in each)

Now, proceed to braid your release cord. Optionally, you can taper it, this is done by dropping a cord every so often. To figure out when to drop a cord, take half your desired sling length subtract by half your pouch size and divide that by 4. The resulting answer is when you drop a cord, you will drop 3 cords in total. Once you get to the length you want, tie the release knot, tab, add a tab, add a bead, or don't add anything, whatever, it's up to you.

Now to add the pouch. Open the pouch over a piece of leather and cut around it it form the shape of pouch you need, then use some fabric glue to glue it to the sling (the glue is to help in sewing)
