New from central U.S., hello

I have been slinging for a couple of years and have gained some decent skill with the sling. I've only used slings I've made, over a dozen of them all with homemade cordage. I am self taught, but I've begun to help my friends learn how to use a sling. I am the only avid slinger I know in my area. If anybody knows about any slingfests or gatherings around the southern Lake Michigan area I would certainly love to participate, or If anybody would like to organize any slingfests or competitions in that area I would be happy to help and participate!  Smiley

Welcome to the forum TobyAttle. As of now the only competition type activities that Im aware of in North America are informal gatherings set up by local members. We are kind of slacking. As far as I know Germany, Balearic Islands and South America all have sling related contests but none here yet!

Greetings from just south of you, about a thousand miles. Wink I would dare say the majority of slingfests that everyone here has participated in have been started by ourselves only after addicting our close friends to this fine hobby. Smiley I too am very interested to see pictures of these slings. Welcome once again.

I saw a video once of what seemed to be a friendly competition among slingers. They seemed to be from South America. Not sure what country.  Kind of an assumption on my part. I guess they also have those festivals where they sling at each other in a mock battle.

Lately I've been using sisal, but I have used hemp, para cord, leather cordage, cotton, and jute. I am currently looking into making a sling out of Kevlar cordage though.
