My sling collection
Apr 30th, 2017 at 1:42pm

I'm having a big clear out so I thought I'd do a bit of a sling inventory- Here is my entire collection.

If you can't be bothered counting it comes to 29 slings- and that's not counting several than I've binned or given away!

I'm probably going to have a giveaway of all the slings I don't really use at some point soon, I'd rather they went to a good home than in the bin! This might be more viable for UK based slingers given postage though, especially with the larger slings.

Yes! ...but I've done well considering I've only been going since the new year. Also all but 3 are either braided or woven which takes time!

Thanks guys. Yes, sometimes I think I enjoy making slings more than slinging. Do quite enjoy doing a bit of braiding whilst watching the tv

I never expected to like braiding slings but it's really helped me understand the appeal of knitting Cheesy

Put them in a bag.  When you go slinging, take an extra sling with you.  If you find someone who is interested, give them a sling.  You may add to our numbers.

And it beats tossing them in the trash.

What Bill said. I've given away more than I can ever remember.  It's good for the sport.  I like that you are experimenting with different designs, thicknesses of cords, different sized pouches, etc..  That's the best way to find what works best for you.  As you make more and more slings they will slowly morph from functional to functional and beautiful. Keep it up. You're on the right track.

Yes I think I'll do that!

Most of the slings above were quite experimental, I almost never make a sling exactly the way that I've made before. Now I'm settling into my favourites I'm making less but they are much more refined.

Yep balearic as of late I'd say. There's something I love about a nice balearic sling. It takes a good bit of work to make, looks great, feels great and I love making a loud whip crack! I'm actually in progress of my second attempt to make one entirely from sisal fibre as opposed to twine, it's looking promising!

For maximum power/distance though I go for the slightly longer cord, small leather pouch (seatbelt style) paracord. I don't feel it's as fun to use but the range is great, and I can even get a small cracking sometimes as the end is frayed.
