Well that's what i think

Got this from Roman from Guam.
It's a sling bullet hand carved from Coral. heavier than and a lot tougher than you'd think.
Definitely used in battle,  and most likely from around the 1600's when the chamorros were fighting the spanish.
Think Roman said he'd tested it for blood and it was positive. So could even be a kill stone.

Size is 70mm long, 40mm diameter in the centre. haven't weighed it yet.


It's a museum piece anywhere in the world. So I made a stand for it last night with a laser engraved inset plaque. Haven't glued that in yet, as I want to see if Roman remembers when he found it, so I'll probably burn another plaque if he can.   
The plaques are made from a plastic that has wood dust mixed in, so it's great stuff for laser engraving.

Not only an antique,  practical item used for it's purpose, but the only type of sling missile that's made by animals not by geological processes.
I love the patterns of holes where the coral fronds would have been.

Hence the display stand - deserves more than being stuck in a drawer or on a shelf with the other rocks I've collected over the years. Plus it's not a rock

Getting pride of place on the sideboard in the sitting room.

Both the Guam guys are just the nicest most generous guys you could ever hope to meet.

Before reading the description I thought maybe it was bone. I always wonder how long it took to shape these types of sling stones. I know they had more time than we do today but that seems like that would take awhile. Maybe they only used these for war? Or maybe they just didn't miss as much as we do.   

That is an awesome stand. I thought it was wood. Great job. I would love to see more stands, when you make them. WOW! !!

What's the weight on that thing? It's huge.

Ah ha, i'll burn another plaque with found by hila'an san nicolas on it.

Probably nearer 75-80 when made as there's achunk missing from impact.

How would one test for blood on such a old artifact?

Ohhh I see what he was saying. His post above be makes me think that he meant one of the others had blood on it, not the coral one. If you look at the picture of them all above the one on the top right seems to have a red stain on it.
