Probably The Coolest Sling Bullet In the World

Well that's what i think Smiley

Got this from Roman from Guam.
It's a sling bullet hand carved from Coral. heavier than and a lot tougher than you'd think.
Definitely used in battle,  and most likely from around the 1600's when the chamorros were fighting the spanish.
Think Roman said he'd tested it for blood and it was positive. So could even be a kill stone.

Size is 70mm long, 40mm diameter in the centre. haven't weighed it yet.

It's a museum piece anywhere in the world. So I made a stand for it last night with a laser engraved inset plaque. Haven't glued that in yet, as I want to see if Roman remembers when he found it, so I'll probably burn another plaque if he can.
The plaques are made from a plastic that has wood dust mixed in, so it's great stuff for laser engraving.

Isn't it though Smiley

Not only an antique,  practical item used for it's purpose, but the only type of sling missile that's made by animals not by geological processes.
I love the patterns of holes where the coral fronds would have been.

Hence the display stand - deserves more than being stuck in a drawer or on a shelf with the other rocks I've collected over the years. Plus it's not a rock Smiley

Getting pride of place on the sideboard in the sitting room.

Was just over the moon when he said I could have it.
Both the Guam guys are just the nicest most generous guys you could ever hope to meet.

That display stand Is badass.I like tge wavy design on the grain.  Is that a solid type of wood? Or multiple pieces together?  You have an awesome piece of history there. Damn

Before reading the description I thought maybe it was bone. I always wonder how long it took to shape these types of sling stones. I know they had more time than we do today but that seems like that would take awhile. Maybe they only used these for war? Or maybe they just didn't miss as much as we do.   Smiley

Not wood at all.
It's 3d printed wood coloured pla.
It's semitransparent so you get interesting patterns from the interior infill.

I could have used the wood infused filament. Might do so in the future. On larger prints it looks and feels like balsa wood, and can be sanded and varnished like actual wood.

My idea was to have the stand sloping back with the stone presented slightly forwards. quite like the result. Might tweak it a bit and add some; more curves. So that the main body comes in at the top and bottom to emphasise the plaque. This was just a quick model to get it on display asap Smiley

Hafa Adai Good People,

Thanks for the good words. Stoked to have connected with you in Mallorca, Unreal to see how many other cultures have slinging in their roots. Coming from a small island, and since slinging was with us so long-in the wild,-were blessed to be gifted with artifact stones still today.

Thats a really cool stand! Thanks for that. the stone is from Hila'an San Nicolas. The other stone was the one with the bloodstain. It wouldnt be the first here. There are some very impressive collections and variations of slingstones. Will send photos

Ah ha, i'll burn another plaque with found by hila'an san nicolas on it.
Cheers for info roman - hang on i'll go weigh it: bang on 70gmd.
Probably nearer 75-80 when made as there's achunk missing from impact.

Pic attached of some of the other stones roman had with him.

How would one test for blood on such a old artifact?

Ohhh I see what he was saying. His post above be makes me think that he meant one of the others had blood on it, not the coral one. If you look at the picture of them all above the one on the top right seems to have a red stain on it.
