Good tutorials for apache style sling?
Feb 28th, 2017 at 4:31pm

If anyone knows of any, please post the links here. I'm wanting to make it traditional, so I want to braid the cord and sew a leather pouch on it, which is traditional style right?

Oh, and any good tutorials for apache style slinging and Balearic style, I can't ever seem to get them right nor find any easily followed tutorials.

There's a few more out there. Just go on youtube and look up Apache Slinging Style. It's a cool throwing style though the article it's based on I think is longer on theory than it is practical experience.  You are correct about the traditional apache sling. Just sew on the leather to a split pouch.

The Apache style is pretty cool but it's not your typical relaxing slinging style. With the figure 8 I can sling all day with no muscle fatigue. With the Apache it's pretty tiring if you are putting alot of power in it and throwing alot. Just remember when learning the apache your arm stays straight through the whole throw. Virtually no bend in the elbow, except maybe just a tad in the starting position. Start out slow eventually you'll get a feel for it. 24 inch sling is a good size to learn on. Good luck.

I've tried out Apache style a few times and I just can't do it without my arm aching. I probably just don't have the technique down properly but I don't fancy trying it out anymore to get good, I'll just ruin my shoulder in the meantime.

It's hard on the shoulder for sure. I imagine if you started young you would build up the required muscles and flexibility to do it into old age like Grandfather. The fact that he didn't spend countless hours playing video games throughout his life probably didn't hurt either.  Grin
Wish I could say the same about myself.

I dread to think what playing video games has done to my spine and posture...

I've always been curious with apache style slings- do you put the rock on the same side as the braiding or the opposite side?

Opposite judo. Just a smooth leather pouch opposite the braiding.
