Well that is puzzling
I can understand wear and tear on the release cord caused by ammo, but not on the retention cord. What style of throw do you do? Maybe the cords are getting crossed and the ammo is tangling up somehow? I know that can happen with a narrow pouch and narrow cordage.

Wait: the wear is on the retention cord? How weird! No idea what could be causing that. (And I sling with a narrow grip too.)

Oh lol..... that's very common.
Ya its the stone hitting it. If the " bump" you are referring to is substantial I would suggest using a wider grip. Which is basically putting the retention loop on your ring finger or possibly ring and pinky together. If that doesn't fix it you can experiment with different throws. I had a similar problem but using a wider grip fixed it.

You could put some whipping where the abrasion is happening (wrap a cord round it for extra protection). This way you can just replace the whipping when it wears through which is an easy 10 minute job. It's quite a common issue.

I have experimented with wrapping a strip of athletic tape lengthwise to take the brunt of abrasion. It is easy to do and works fairly well. Although you lose some flexibility in that portion of the cordage. The most effective abrasion shield I have come up with was a strip of thin glove leather. I stitched it together to form a sort of leather-noodle, lol and slipped that over the cordage and anchored in place with a piece of waxed thread. It was lightweight and flexible, like it wasn't there, and took a lot of abuse.

Another thing you may want to try is a button or toggle release or a stiff tab of bone or wood. These will add a little weight to the end of the release cord and make the pouch open quicker.
If you go this route, you will discover two problems.
First, the pouch opens quicker so you will basically have to start from scratch as far as learning to hit anything.
Second, if that cord wraps around your body and that toggle smacks you on the nipple, it will really sting.

But you must replace the leather strap when it is very worn and damaged.

Ganz sicher.

I like to curve the release end of my pouch in the opposite direction from the retention end.
Pretty much eliminates the problem.

"Learn to build better hurl. The knots on the letter are very unfavorable. They let stone stumble.
Billl ... Your suggestion only works with a very long sling. In a short spin the fringes are at the end. These are braked by a higher resistance of the air. This opens the slingshot. In a long sling, the higher length of the cord brakes.
Balearic slings are different in construction. Their focus is not in the middle. Therefore, the stone is guided longer. When the shot is shot, the stone does not dissolve until the sling of the sling.
Attach fringes at the end of their sling. It will greatly improve their control. Certainly."

Thank you Morphy.
And thank you Jaegoor. With his light cord, I thought the toggle would help the the release cord open quicker.
