The latest recruit from Iowa
Feb 22nd, 2017 at 6:44pm

Hello, my name is Joseph Jurgensmeier. I am from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I just recently got in to slinging thanks to Lindybeige's videos on the topic. Luckily, my newfound interest coincided with a very unseasonably warm February. So far I have hit a stack of boxes twice and a tree once. Woot!

All Right! Good job!  BTW, were you actually trying to hit those boxes?

Hello and welcome from Alabama.  If you have the ability and feel like it, post pictures of your slinging adventures.

Haha, yes I was trying to hit the boxes. Although I probably slung (slinged? whats acceptable?) around 20 rocks that were nowhere near the boxes.

Be prepared to miss a lot. About 2, almost 3 years of slinging for me and every hit is still a surprise.

The great thing about slinging near a wood is that you hit a lot of trees. And if anyone is watching, you can just claim it was the tree you were actually aiming at Smiley

Anyone know if lindy beige is one of ours ?
name doesn't ring a bell with me.

Lindybeige is his youtube channel name. I think his real name is Nicholas Lloyd. I don't know if he's on the forums.

These are the slings I've made so far. I decided to jump straight to a braided sling because I thought the idea was so cool. The first one is made out of hemp, and it's pretty much the only sling I have used so far. I thought it turned out  I love it a lot! It also makes a pretty legit belt.

The second sling I made out of paracord. I kinda messed up on it and the release cord half of it is shorter than the retention cord part, but it looks cool. I also wanted it to be much longer than the first one, but I didn't cut anywhere near enough material so it is almost exactly the same length Angry

Welcome! They look like pretty nice slings.

If you are braiding with paracord you can gut (remove the central white threads) which makes it a much thinner profile and easier to braid.

Also, for braiding wise I find cords cut to 5.5-6m safely make a 30-35 inches split pouch sling (if you wanted to make a longer one).

I'm also a fan of lindybeige videos, very interesting history well presented.

Hello, Joseph. Welcome aboard.  Like most of us you'll probably find accuracy the last aspect of slinging that you master.
