It is made of black plastic fibers from ropes used to tie straw bales. You can find them here discarded and thrown away across the countryside.

This material is by far tougher than palm, pita or esparto.

The release cord is a bit too long. But as the end will be probably missing in action in a while. I will replace it with a shorter one.

It cracks like a whip.

It is not so difficult. In fact my braids are still a bit rough, specially at the splicings. I must to learn a lot yet.

It is strange but the palm leaf slings have a mild smell that remember to me something like fermented bread with yeast.
