Sling lengths based on height
Feb 5th, 2017 at 3:44pm

So, for a 5 foot 3 inch guy, what would be a good size for a small, medium, and long sling. I've made a few long ones but most seem a bit too long so I'm interested to see what you guys think.

i'm 5'5" this is my opinion:

small: 60cm
medium: 65-85cm
long:85-110cm
v.long: the max length you can handle, also depends on style  (1,4m for me)

I have found the two best lengths for me.

Stand with your sling on like you have a rock in the pouch, holding the retention cord at your release point.

My short sling is when my arm is hanging naturally, the pouch will be even with my ankle bone.

My long sling is my forearm held horizontally, the pouch is even with my ankle bone.

These are not measured features, my slings vary 1-2 inches, (25-50mm) above or below.  Although slightly shorter is better than slightly longer, but that is for me, personally.  You may do better with a slightly longer sling.

However, especially with my shorter sling, this lets me throw underhand without hitting the ground.

I am new to all of this, so big grain of salt.

The distance from my sternum to my outstretched hand seems to be optimum.  Interestingly, this is the same distance from my hand (w/ the arm held straight down) to the ground.

I am 6'2".  My current favorite sling is 35" measured from the center of the pouch to the retention loop.

I use the length from where the retention loop goes on my finger up to my armpit. I like relative sizes personally because I feel like a 30 inch sling might feel different for a person who is 4' 5 vs a person who is 6'5".  When I was testing this I would try to dial my sling length and ammo weight in by getting ammo from about 3.5 Oz all the way up to say 8 Oz and testing each combination out for speed, accuracy and over all hitting power. Match the sling to the ammo to the slinger so to speak. There is no set standard. Just experiment and use what feels best.

I am 6'4", A 2.5 foot (a little less than 3/5ths of a meter) Is the length of my general use sling. for Accuracy I Prefer a 2' sling, and when I am out in the open, away from possible snags, I use a 3' sling for distance.
