Slinging Stats
Jan 2nd, 2017 at 9:44am

For those of you who have time can you post these stats?

1. Relative upper body strength- below average, average, above average etc.

2. Arm length- from the base of your retention finger where the loop would go to the top of your arm pit

3. Chosen sling length for target slinging

4. Slinging style

5. Ammo weight

6. Type of Ammo (both what kind- rocks, concrete, clay, tennis balls etc and what shape if formed. Also, are they consistently shaped well or fairly rough)

7. Time over 30 (I doubt many people would know this off hand, but essentially how long it takes your shot to reach the target from 30 meters.) This is a better gauge of speed than release speed since different ammo slows down at different speeds.

8. And lastly, about what was your accuracy at 20 meters the last time in your life you put in a decent amount of practice?

1) well above average
2) 63cm
3) between 21 and 33 inches
4) All of them - mainly fig 8 and sidearm for close targets
5) preferred around 60-70gms
6) clay balls for preference
7) not a clue - would depend on how hard I decided to throw, so: variable
8) pretty good
9) see question 3

Looking for patterns mostly Parmenion.

I do alot of primitive weapon design and again and again I find proportion and ratios being one of the biggest aspects of understanding proper design.  Thanks to any and all that can post. I think this will help us all.

Please be as open about the accuracy and speed question as possible as it will benefit our understanding quite a bit given enough responses. Thanks.  Cheesy

Really, no one else?  Cry  Undecided

Thanks CA and Parmenion, so far. Hoping we get more responses.  Smiley

I wonder how many serious target slingers we have on the forum right now?  There was a time when we used to have some pretty heated discussions on what makes the sling tick.

I bet I could get people talking. All I have to say is something like "The Figure-8 is the only good style for target practice so suck it side arm slingers!"   Cool

I've been meaning to add my stats but I've been wanting to test out the 20 and 30 meters first but then have had no time to sling. Such is life...

I may not have been a member back then, but I remember that too, it got tense even for me. ( Like two years ago I think.)

Okay, I'll Bite.
1. Average
2. 26 inches
3. 30 inch balaeric
4. Byzantine (It just feels natural.)
5. No idea
6. rocks
7. Again no idea.
8. At my best 60% ( It was very satisfying when 3 of us would aim at the same target. We felt invincible. Cool)

I guess it's a hobby of mine. I've seen your hobbies Timpa. They are both horrifying and wonderful. Props to you bro.  Smiley

Thanks for the additional responses. I really do appreciate every response as my inability to sling with others really holds back me back from testing my theories. Please anyone that can give relatively accurate info, post away if you have a moment. Thanks.  Cheesy

1.) I would say average strength at best.
2.)35"
3.) 28-32"
4.) I never really settled on one particular style and I think that I might be better if I had. I use all the styles except apache.
5.)4-6 ounces?
6.) crappy railroad rocks most of the time but I was a big user of tennis balls too.
7.)
No idea how fast I sling. My top distance is about 150 meters if that's helpful for this question.
8.) my best accuracy was maybe 25% at a two foot target at 20 meters. I could hit a three foot target probably 60% + at that range.

@Morphy
i think that question number 7 will be answered by very few . i recommend that those who can't answer question 7 should post their personal record on max distance. Like Tomas did.

@ Parmenion- That would work.

I wish we could get a clearer idea on accuracy. Hubert, I know from previous videos that when you say good you're probably being really modest.

I do appreciate that but you have nothing to be modest about here since this is for the sake of all that is good and pure in the scientific advancement of slinging and not to overstate it, but the continuation of the very universe itself hinges on people not being modest in this instance. In other words, you are an awesome slinger, I just need to know specifically how awesome. Like hit percentage on a baleric bullseye from 20 or 30 meters if you happen to know it off the top of your head.

Thanks again to all. Smiley
