Medieval Crossbow project
Dec 19th, 2016 at 3:20pm

My brother, myself, and a friend of ours have started to build a crossbow. My brother is providing the engineering know-how, our friend is a first rate woodworker (and a good slinging buddy too), and my task is to do miscellaneous chores and fiddle for their entertainment.

Is that you?
That is a real piece of engineering, you could have been a highly rated magister armorum (weapons master) in any Italian medieval town!  Grin
I like it, very neat building and projecting, great!

Thanks for the complements. I show up a few times in the pictures wearing a blue or gray shirt. My brother, the guy in yellow, has been planning this project a while now. He is in college, so we are hoping to be done before his winter break is over. We'll also be making the quarrels as well, but that will be towards the end.

Ask and you shall receive!!! Spent today forging a claw for a belt and claw and practicing making bodkin points; I don't know yet if we were able to get much of anything in the cameras though... things move much faster when working with metal, all hands were on deck. But here is installment two.

Okay... the moment we have all be waiting for... pictures of the finished crossbow. It is not strung at the moment, that is a two man operation. ( 155# at 11" can't be strung like a regular bow you know.) The bolts are fletched with rawhide and they fly pretty true. Hopefully, there will be a shooting video real soon within the next week, but no promises.
