new knife!
Dec 1st, 2016 at 10:48pm

I hope this fits here, but it is not a primitive weapon per se, got it at a store. yesterday I bought a $20 M-tech Kabar styled knife. it is 420 grade steel with a full tang. beautiful knife, best I have ever held!

Nice knife, I don't  buy any knives anymore. About 7 months ago I started learning how to make knives out of steel cutouts, and blacksmithing. I got about 7-10 blades under my belt. I usually use 1095 steel. I match em up with ferro rods for bushcrafting. And old refurbished  steel. Lawnmower blades.

looks good - apart from the serrations,
Not a fan of serrations on a knife.
If you have to put serrations on a knife - stick them on the back (top) where they don't screw the blade up.

thank you everyone! Yes, the serration IMHO shouldn't be there at all. my correction btw, I meant to say 440 steel, good difference there. The knife, despite being cheap, is proving to hold up very nicely. I bought two more from the same brand, both being $9.99. one has the serration on the back, the other having a serrated appearance, though that is just on the back, proving a rough surface to use a magnesium fire-starter against.

that is a handy skill to learn! how well does that grade of steel handle? would you say it is more or less durable?

I love 1095 steel.  Since I am new to it I can't really tell, but my mentor likes to use it. He has alot of experience.  I like it since it does dual purpose.  I makey own ferro rods, so my knives can work both.ways. use the spine of the blade and it's a nice striker to. Get a fire going. My gear has to have at least 2 separate duties or I won't use it.
