Nice catch! I wish there were more detailed depictions of slinging in film. I guess swords and arrows are more pretty to look at.

I thought I rifled through a compiled list of sling depictions in film somewhere on here..

With some noteworthy exceptions (Clan of the Cave Bear, etc.) it seems like slings in film are limited to Roman historical fiction and David and Goliath documentaries and such. Rarely if ever used for hunting. Which is odd considering how long it's been around.

"Exile" is a made-for-tv movie from 1990 about a bunch of kids who are trapped on a desert island (I think that it was supposed to be a pilot, but series wasn't picked up). It has one of the coolest slinging scenes ever. If you want to watch the whole movie, you can access part 1 of 10 at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciAE2ui_tEs

If you just want to see the slinging scene, you can find it at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMaTbm6btVw

The scene starts at 8:11. When I first saw this film as a kid, I loved the slinging scene and watched it over and over again. My first sling was modeled on the one in the movie. It's a horrible design, but this was before the internet was widely available and I didn't have anything else to go on. The movie is dated, but watchable.

This trailer came across my dash and although the historical accuracy is most probably wanting, it does seem that there's a sling in it. Itäs a real blink-and-you'll-miss-it but at 1:05 a sling is slung by someone. Would be interesting to see how it's depicted in the film itself.

I really hate that.

You've got a perfect ambush for ranged weapons and after the first shot - which takes someone out.
Instead of just bombarding them till there's no bugger left standing they all rush in with swords and half of them usually die.

Do it right and an ambush slinging scene would have at least as much impact as half naked idiots running about with swords.

There's a similiar scene in the first season of GOT.

But as usual - they didn't ask me Smiley

That exile scene is hilarious. he actually slung a half brick. And the guy would have dropped like a stone, not staggered around like a cartoon character.

I think it would be a lot more intimidating as well to have a load of people hidden away in the trees and all you see of them is a quick blur and then you're seeing stars (or your respective god/gods). I really think the psychological effects of ranged weapons is often under played in media. I know the hero has to be seen as fearless but I think most people would need to change their trousers under a hail of arrows and stones.

(from CinemaSins)

at 3:16, a terrible example of slinging, from the movie King Arthur (2004). As a bonus, a really terrible example of archery, too !
