Goodbye, my dear friend.
Oct 19th, 2016 at 8:02pm

On September 30th I had Odin put down.  His arthritis had gotten terrible. His back haunches were just about gone and he had a bad hitch in his front right one. I could go on about his ailments. Suffice to say it was time. He was in such miserable shape that a car trip to the vet's would have been pure torture for him so I had a mobile vet come to our home to do it. They were reasonably priced, about the same as the regular vet, and very professional. It's a service I'd use again.  Odin was 13 1/2.  Odin and Kali had seen me through some of the darkest days of my life. He was an incredibly beautiful dog who I'll love and miss forever. RIP, Big Boy!

Such a beauty! I adopted Odin from our local shelter when he was fully grown at five years old. It's hard to believe that a dog like that was in the shelter. He is pure Siberian. He had no behavioral problems. He was in the pound because he kept escaping from his previous owners. He had gotten away so many times that they couldn't afford the recovery fees so the pound confiscated him. My gain!  This is one of my favorite pictures of him.

I'm sorry.  You did good getting him from the pound.  You can tell from his expression that is a happy dog.  And having the vet come to your house was a good thing.  He didn't get worried or anxious and was in his territory.  He just went to sleep and all the pain stopped.

So sorry for your loss, I know the feeling. September 1st I had to put my dog down as well. I did the same thing. He was a rescue that was confiscated.  They give so much. Their only flaw is they don't live longer lives

It wasn't too long ago that my girlfriend's family lost their corgi. Losing a dog is tough and yeah it really hurts.

I am very sorry for your loss RatMan. I only just heard about it.
Losing a dog is losing a family member. Both you and Odin are in my prayers.

I've been off the forum for quite a while, and came back to notice this thread. Aw, man.   Embarrassed

Rat Man, my condolences. I'm happy for you and for Odin that you had some really good years together, adding meaning and pleasure to each other's lives.  Smiley

Rat Man,

So sorry for your loss.  Dogs are family.  They give so much and ask for so little in return.  You can see the connection between you and Odin in the photo.  You and Odin had many good years together.  He may be gone, but not the memories.
