I don't know what situation I would be in where all I would have to hit somebody with is the backside of a phone book.  But now I know what to do. Thanks.

In US prisons there are "watersticks" which are paper laminated with water and toothpaste to make clubs. I have not been able to find much info on them, other than their existence, but I don't doubt their efficacy. I started making a set of lamallar armor with paper and wood glue. Never have finished but the strength and hardness of the scales is impressive. A truncheon of that hardness would be devastating.
