Wanted to bring this one back. I would choose possibly  Billy Corgan even though people say he's an a**hole in real life. Not a huge fan of their newer stuff but Siamese Dream and Melancholy were some of the best albums of all time in my opinion.

From recent years probably Matt Bellamy. People like to hate on Muse now cus they are so mainstream but they have some really amazing music.

Lastly I second the Robert Johnson one. Or possibly John Lennon.  Both of whom claimed to make deals with the devil. Though Lennons might have been tounge in cheek.

No idea about dead but alive? "King Buzz" Osbourne of The Melvins.

Actually maybe David Bowie for dead. I only actually made a conscious effort to listen to his stuff after he died.
