training balls?
Jul 30th, 2016 at 8:46am

i'm planning on transferring my main training place to a football field , so instead of stones i will have to move to tennis balls Sad .
are there any other cheap projectiles i could use?    I can't think of any.

tennis balls are too light....

and yes i can fill them with something heavy but i would prefer since i buy them to be ready for use with no further time/money spent on the projectiles.

fill the tennis balls with water.

Tennis balls a re actually really good weight for slinging.

why do you want heavy stuff ?

well i dont like very heavy stuff, somewhere at 100g-400g is fine
but there are many reasons to like heavier projectiles:
1) The Principle of Overload can be applied
2)more POWER!
3)mechanics and ballistics are closer to what i  use for distance throwing (stone) and i like distance throwing even though i suck at it Smiley

Try to make rusty balls. Search on this forum. U have to make em. But they are cheap. And don't take very long to make em. $10 investment for supplies and 1 hour of work.  Yields a good amount.

There's these cheap fake baseballs that you can buy at Walmart for like $2, they aren't as heavy as lacrosse balls but their pretty close and they are entirely foam. They would probably still knock somebody out if you hit them, but they wont damage your wall if you decide to go for accuracy like rocks would. Plus their heavy enough to go for some decent range. Hope this helps Smiley

If you really want weight but have limited space, (and a football field is limited space for a sling), and just want distance, then make some out of sand filled canvas bags.

Cut some old jeans up and sew them into whatever size pouch you want, fill them with sand and possibly put a streamer or tail on it to limit distance and make it easier to find and have at it.

thanks again for the info.

i concluded to weighted tennis balls .

so i made :
10x 275g
1x   400g
1x   180g
and left as it is
3x   tennis balls

i filled them with sand and lead.
after i gathered the materials took me 2 hours to make 12 balls
10euros for tennis balls
7,2euros for 1,2kg of lead (expensive!)
sand was free
so  it is 1,43 euro + 10minutes/ ball
time will show if it was a good choice and construction.

below are some pictures.

you need to resize your pictures to 800x600.

uploading huge pictures serves no useful purpose.
You've dumped about 14mb on the servers when you only needed around 1mb - probably less if the pictures were a sensible size.

Well throwing weights that heavy are probably the issue. For proper distance slinging you need pretty small and light weights Smiley
The 225gms is a nice weight to sling - but you're never going to get any huge diatance with it.

Great little picture resizer: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?action=downloadfile;file=ImageResizerSetup%2Ez...

Now are the lead filled balls, to Capacity?  Or do they have wiggle  room? If they have space inside.. it would probably give the ball a wobble. And drastically affect the throw. In a few ways

275g balls(
red
) have 3 lead weights(33g) and then filled up with sand.I even hit them so sand can settle and i can pack more .
